The Jaecoo J5 EV is the latest addition to the Omoda Jaecoo Tauranga lineup, with New Zealand pricing now confirmed. The all-electric J5 EV is priced from $42,990+ORC, and a Tauranga demo is arriving soon for customers who would like to view the vehicle in person and enquire about test drive availability.
In terms of size, the J5 EV sits in the compact SUV category, measuring 4,380mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,650mm tall, with a 2,620mm wheelbase. Luggage capacity is 384L to the cargo cover and 480L to the roof, positioning it as a practical option for everyday use.
Range, battery and charging
The J5 EV offers a 402km WLTP driving range. Power comes from a 58.9kWh LFP battery paired with a permanent magnet motor producing 155kW and 288Nm.
Charging is via Type 2 AC (single-phase 6.6kW / three-phase 10.3kW) and CCS2 DC fast charging up to 130kW, with a 30–80% fast-charge time of approximately 28 minutes under suitable conditions.
Interior and technology
Inside, the J5 EV features an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen. Connectivity includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 50W wireless phone charger (device compatibility dependent). Comfort features include heated and ventilated front seats and dual-zone climate control.
TÜV SÜD “Pet-Friendly” seats
One of the J5 EV’s standout features is its TÜV SÜD-certified “Pet-Friendly” seat material. This upholstery is designed with durability and easy care in mind, including scratch resistance and antibacterial performance – a feature likely to appeal to households that regularly travel with pets.
Safety and driver assistance
The J5 EV includes a comprehensive suite of driver assistance and safety technology, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and prevention, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and braking, driver monitoring, and an around-view (360°) camera, supported by front and rear parking sensors.
Warranty and roadside assistance
The Jaecoo J5 EV is backed by a 7-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty, an 8-year unlimited kilometre high-voltage battery warranty, and up to 7 years roadside assistance (terms and conditions apply).
Omoda Jaecoo Tauranga Lineup
The Jaecoo J5 EV joins the broader Omoda Jaecoo SUV range available in Tauranga, alongside Omoda C5, Omoda E5, Jaecoo J7, Jaecoo J7 SHS, and Omoda 9 SHS.
Jaecoo has also confirmed a Jaecoo J5 Petrol model for New Zealand. However, local pricing, grades and final specifications for the petrol version have not yet been announced, and the petrol specification will differ from the EV.
